    No, as of the 2026 update, the Science section is completely optional. You can choose to take it if your target university specifically requires it for STEM programs.

    The ACT is scored on a scale of 1 to 36. Your composite score is the average of your scores from the mandatory English, Mathematics, and Reading sections.

    All US universities accept both the ACT and SAT equally. The choice depends on your personal testing style—the ACT is generally faster-paced with a slightly different math focus.

    No, there is no penalty for incorrect answers on the ACT. It is always in your best interest to guess if you are unsure or running out of time.

    The new core ACT format takes approximately 2 hours. If you choose to add the optional Science and Writing sections, the total test time will be longer.
